This article may be useful for visitors who are planning to visit Shizuoka or cruise into Shimizu Port! 🚢🗻
We have listed some places that were popular among visitors of Diamond Princess, Celebrity Mellennium, Star Navigator, Ovation of the Seas, and other cruises.
Mishima Skywalk
This is Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, stretching 400 meters (1,312 feet) across a deep, lush valley in Shizuoka Prefecture. Located along the path between Hakone and Mt. Fuji, it offers visitors breathtaking, unobstructed panoramic views of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay from a height of over 70 meters.

👀 Panoramic Views of Mt. Fuji & Suruga Bay: On clear days, walking across the bridge feels like suspended floating in the sky, providing a sweeping backdrop that captures both Japan’s tallest peak and its deepest bay simultaneously.
🌳 Thrill & Adventure Activities: Beyond the bridge, the surrounding adventure park features thrilling activities like a high-flying Long Zip Line that lets you glide directly toward Mount Fuji, as well as forest adventure courses, segway tours, and off-road e-bike trails.
🍴 Sky Garden & Dining: On the northern end, visitors can relax inside a climate-controlled glass greenhouse draped with vibrant hanging flower displays, featuring cafes, souvenir shops, and local Shizuoka street food like specialty soft-serve ice cream made from local milk.
Mt.Fuji World Heritage Centre – Fujinomiya
A state-of-the-art museum dedicated to the natural beauty, geological formation, artistic influence, and spiritual history of Mt. Fuji. Designed by world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban, the facility offers visitors an immersive, educational journey whether Mount Fuji itself is visible or hidden behind clouds.

▼ Striking Inverted Cone Architecture: The building’s iconic exterior is constructed from latticed Shizuoka wood shaped like an inverted cone. When reflected in the still outdoor pond in front, it completes the image of Mount Fuji’s symmetrical peak.
🎒 Simulated Mountain Ascent: Inside, visitors walk up a gentle 193-meter spiral ramp surrounded by high-definition projection displays. The climb simulates the experience of ascending Mt. Fuji from sea level to the summit, showcasing changing ecosystems and climatic zones.
📷 Observation Deck: At the top of the spiral path, a spacious observation hall with floor-to-ceiling glass windows frames a spectacular, uninterrupted view of Mount Fuji and Fujinomiya City.
👀 Interactive Cultural Exhibits: Interactive multimedia exhibits, historical artifacts, and time-lapse video installations explain the mountain’s volcanic evolution, sacred Shinto worship traditions, and its enduring role in Japanese art and literature.
Lake Tanuki
A scenic artificial lake located on the Asagiri Plateau, near the western foot of Mt. Fuji in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka Prefecture. Renowned for its calm waters and panoramic vistas, it is one of the premier spots in Japan to witness stunning reflections of Mt. Fuji.

🗻 Famous “Double Fuji” & “Diamond Fuji” Views: The lake’s mirror-like surface frequently creates a perfect upside-down reflection of Mt. Fuji (Sakasa-Fuji). In April and August, it becomes a famous vantage point for “Diamond Fuji,” when the rising sun aligns perfectly with the peak of the mountain.
🌳 Outdoor & Leisure Activities: A paved 3.3-kilometer walking and cycling path circles the entire perimeter, making it ideal for easy strolls, renting bicycles, freshwater fishing, or paddling rental boats across the water.
⛺ Lush Camping & Picnic Grounds: The lakeside features well-maintained campsites with open grassy areas, BBQ facilities, and peaceful spots to relax in nature with Mount Fuji standing dramatically in the background.
🌺 Seasonal Beauty: Visitors can enjoy vibrant cherry blossoms and fresh greenery in spring, lush pine forests in summer, and rich autumn foliage (koyo) framing the mountain during the cooler months.
Owakudani – The Great Boiling Valley
A dramatic, active volcanic valley created around 3,000 years ago during the last eruption of Mount Hakone. Famous for its steaming sulfur vents, bubbling hot springs, and rugged volcanic landscape, it offers visitors an unforgettable glimpse into the geothermal power beneath Japan’s surface.

🥚 Famous Black Eggs (Kuro-Tamago): A local culinary staple, these fresh eggs are boiled directly in the naturally hot, sulfurous spring waters. The reaction turns the shells jet-black, and local legend claims eating one adds seven years to your life!
👀 Hakone Ropeway Aerial Views: Riding the scenic Hakone Ropeway over the valley provides a thrilling bird’s-eye perspective of the active, steaming vents below, along with striking views of Mt. Fuji on clear days.
🏔 Geothermal & Volcanic Landscape: Walking paths and observation points offer up-close views of rising steam plumes, sulfurous rock formations, and the raw, unpolished terrain of Hakone’s volcanic heart.
😋 Souvenirs & Black Delicacies: Beyond the famous black eggs, shops in the main visitor center sell a variety of themed snacks, including black curry, charcoal soft-serve ice cream, and volcanic mineral bath salts.
