Beat the Heat: Top Cool Escapes for Your Summer Trip in August!
August in Japan brings vibrant summer energy, but it can also be scorching hot, with temperatures often soaring past 35°C (95°F). To make sure you enjoy your trip safely, taking precautions against the heat is a must!
Whenever you head out on a tour, we highly recommend bringing along🌞:
✅ Sunscreen (to protect your skin)
✅ A parasol or UV umbrella (a popular and effective Japanese way to stay cool)
✅ A bottle of water or electrolyte drink
✅ Salty candies or snacks (great for replenishing electrolytes lost through sweat)
😎Looking for a break from the intense heat?
Here are our top recommended “cool escape” spots where you can relax, enjoy nature, and refresh yourself this summer!
Narusawa Hyoketsu Ice Cave

Located in the Fuji Five Lakes area near Aokigahara Forest, the Narusawa Ice Cave is open to visitors year-round. 🧊 What Makes It Unique? Even during midsummer when it is 35°C (95°F) outside, the temperature inside stays around 0°C to 3°C (32°F–37°F).

Mt.Fuji World Heritage Centre

It serves as a comfortable, air-conditioned refuge during hot summer days while still immersing travelers in Mt. Fuji‘s culture and geography. 🗻Inside, visitors ascend a 193-meter spiral slope surrounded by time-lapse projection screens. This lets guests experience climbing Mt. Fuji from sea level to the summit without enduring the intense heat or physical strain outside ✨

Shizuoka City Museum of History

The Shizuoka City Museum of History opened recently (January 2023) right across from the Sunpu Castle Park ruins, making it a sleek, state-of-the-art facility. During construction, workers uncovered actual stone walls and roads from the Sengoku (Warring States) to early Edo period. Instead of moving or covering them, the museum designed the ground floor directly over these ruins, letting visitors walk above visible historical remains.
