A historical village with traditional thatched-roof houses, that was once said to be Japan’s most beautiful village with over 40 houses.
In 1966, 37 of the houses were completely and partially destroyed after being striked with a debris flow caused by the record-breaking rainfall that year.
In 2006, 40 years after the tragic incident, “Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato Nemba” was born with around 20 thatched houses to create a new tourist exchange case that takes advantage of the local history, culture, and natural environment unique to this area.
